ABOUT THE ARTIST
Matthew Broad experiences his paintings as a creative flow directly from a divine source energy. His connection to that source energy through music as well as the book, The Creative Act, A Way of Being by Rick Ruben are the impetus for planting the creative light to shine through him in the way of the mandala. All of his designs are painted freehand, none are perfectly symmetrical. Whether gratitude stone or canvas, when putting paint on an object, he has no preconceived details of the mandala being created. His time spent creating the mandala is a meditation and has helped Matthew come to a place of acceptance that nothing is “perfect.” Each mandala he paints brings him incredible joy and he wants to share that joy with you.
WHAT IS A MANDALA?
As presented by Joshua Mark in the World History Encyclopedia, A Mandala (Sanskrit for circle) is an artistic representation of higher thought and deeper meaning given as a geometric symbol used in spiritual, emotional or psychological work to focus one’s attention. The mandala image has been used by cultures around the world since the first century BCE. While the details of the meaning of a specific mandala depend upon the individual creating or observing the image, mandalas in every culture serve the similar purpose of centering an individual or community on a given narrative in order to encourage introspection and ultimately, an awareness of one’s place and purpose in the world; this awareness then allows for peace of mind.
